Do I need a permit?

If you plan on conducting an open burn with a total fuel area larger than three feet in diameter and two feet in height, then yes, you need to obtain a Residential Burn Permit. If you are grilling or cooking (using charcoal, clean wood, propane or natural gas), burning a recreational fire (as defined in 50-27), or burning in a chiminea, portable outdoor fireplace fire bowl or similar device, a permit is not required.

Can I use this system to obtain a permit for a bonfire?

A bonfire is a large outdoor fire within any non-residential property utilized for ceremonial purposes and requires a special use permit from the Fire Marshal's Office. Currently, the online system is only for the issuance of residential burn permits. Applications for a special use permit must be filed with the fire marshal a minimum of fourteen (14) days prior to the date of the proposed event. To obtain a special use permit, contact the Smyrna Fire Marshal's Office at 678-631-5372. A permit issued under this section shall be valid for only the dates, times, and locations approved.
